Trauma Sensitive

This approach recognizes that individuals with trauma histories may have unique needs and vulnerabilities during their yoga practice. By adopting trauma-sensitive principles, the training seeks to ensure that participants feel supported, empowered, and comfortable during their yoga journey.

A trauma-sensitive approach allows you as a future teacher to creating a safe and non-judgmental environment, offering choices and modifications, providing clear and consensual instructions, and respecting personal boundaries. It aims to avoid triggers and retraumatization, promoting healing, resilience, and self-empowerment.

The Program

Lori RYT

Anatomy Instructor

Lori began her yoga journey in 1999 where she felt drawn to the practice, not really knowing what to expect. In time, she was amazed at the endless gifts’ yoga gave to not just her body, but her mind and spirit more importantly. Lori graduated from the Massage Therapy Program at Grant MacEwan 21 years ago, adding to her passion of the human body. Becoming a 200hr certified yoga instructor in 2010, Lori has then taught many types of classes, bringing her love and knowledge of anatomy, her gift of making ALL feel welcome, and has built little yoga communities that remain connected together, year after year. Her teaching style is a mix of sincerity, peppered with humor, tenderness, and compassion. For Lori, yoga has allowed a safe space to step into her true, authentic self. It has allowed her to have a safe and powerful space to help heal the mind and body of past traumas, by now using many tools yoga brings. This is why Lori loves to teach so much. She is committed to connecting students with the traditional teachings of the practice, having fun, becoming curious while listening and trusting the intelligence of one’s mind and body. Her hopes are to help as many people as she can with her gifts, using not just massage, and cranio sacral therapy, but encourage every BODY to step onto their mat. She inspires all that they do not need to bend like a pretzel, or meditate like a monk, but to just take a deep breath, be open, remain committed to start living your best life. The commitment brings significant change to one’s consciousness. She is honored to be part of her students’ journeys.

Cheryl

Assistant Teacher

Cheryl’s journey with Yoga began in 2014 and from the start she ‘felt at home’. Although she originally came to Yoga for the physical practice, it was the calming effects of aligning breath, body and mind that brought a transformation into Cheryl’s life. Her experience from practice with different instructors and different styles brought to light how yoga has so much to offer in creating room for personal growth and endless evolution.

+ More

It was in 2019 Cheryl obtained her 200hr YTT Certification in Hatha style yoga. The same year she did a Mentorship program in Vinyasa Flow style yoga. Combining different pieces learned from her Teachers and all her instructors, Cheryl has created a unique teaching style enhancing the quality of mindfully yoking breath with movement, invoking the importance of stillness within the action.

Always learning and yearning for continued growth, Cheryl is forever a student. Her mantra, “Learn, Blossom, Grow” keeps her grounded and reminds her that being a student first brings new knowledge to grow and expand as a teacher. Cheryl’s introduction to Himalayan Kundalini and Kriya Yoga styles under guidance from her Teacher, Meera, has greatly broadened her teaching knowledge and style as well as deepened her practice spiritually and continues to do so, as do her studies. Cheryl received her Certification in Sakalya Yoga in June, 2022, her second 200hr YTT Certification.

Cheryl feels yoga should be shared with all and offers yoga through classes for adults. Cheryl has also received Chair Yoga training and offers classes for seniors. Cheryl has worked with children and has obtained level 2 towards 95hr Children’s Yoga Training certification. Her deep love and appreciation for nature and the world around her combines well with yogic philosophies which has lead her to embrace Yoga into her lifestyle. Cheryl is truly grateful for each and everyone she is able to share yoga with.

PROGRAM INFO & POLICIES

+ What is Sakalya Yoga Teacher Training?

Sakalya is a Sanskrit word that when directly translated means holistic.

Sakalya Yoga is an assimilation of compelling ancient Yoga techniques brought to us from the time of the Vedas, combined with dynamic modern techniques, mindfully amalgamated to empower the practitioner and provide the ultimate means to self awakening, self empowerment and holistic healing.

Sakalya Yoga is an integrated, limitless and powerful practice that uses an array of Practices from all branches of Yoga, combined and carefully selected to form a life and teachers toolbox so profound as to prepare the student for ascension physically, mentally and spiritually. Sakalya Yoga Teacher Training goes beyond the standard Yoga Teacher Training foundations to create a community of empowerment, self expression, self-creation and unique individuality.

Sakalya Yoga is founded on inclusivity and compassion, and teaches a student that the greatest healer is the healer open to all, one who is kind, humble and non-judgemental. Sakalya Yoga goes deep into practices that invoke an undisturbed, well centred being. It goes well beyond the physical practice, to create a shift in ones energy and teach an understanding of how to mange it.

It is an all-encompassing, elevating experience that dives deep into the unbound wisdom, and limitless capabilities of the student to unite the mind, body and spirit. A Sakalya Yoga practice will bring you on an exciting inward exploration, using an array of ancient and modern yoga techniques, that include Asana (yoga postures), Meditation (a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness), Mudra (fingers postures), Mantra (a repeated sound, word or phrase that holds energetic and healing powers) and Kriya (a technique or action that leads to liberation). Kriya removes energetic blocks, increases energy and balances the nervous system. It is a powerful practice in itself used to transcend old and repetitive patterns of the mind and body, while Pranayama (breath control, means "life force") helps to implement and ignite vitality, while balancing the energetic fluctuations of the specific individual.

Combining the use of all these practices not only illuminates the spirit but also calms the nervous system, balances the glandular system, stimulates the pituitary and pineal glands, strengthens the immune system, increases flexibility of spine and helps to eliminate stress, anger, frustration and depression, leaving you open to transcend all that doesn't serve your human and spiritual potential.

There is always a strong focus on balance; the presence of Sun and Moon, Masculine and Feminine, the Yin and the Yang, to instill a sense of ease and stable sense of wellbeing throughout the practice while keeping a strong focus on breath control. A Sakalya Yoga practice teaches and encourages alignment while allowing the individual to experience movement and stillness through their own unique expression without sacrificing safety. Students are encouraged to develop self-awareness, to practice individual responsibility and personal practice advice is always readily available in all Sakalya Yoga practices.

Sakalya Yoga is a practice so profound, so incredibly unique that it will seize the moment to create an environment where students can open their hearts and leave inspired and energized. It is an immensely joyous practice without expectation and free of all judgment. Each practice is for all beings, all ages and all levels arriving in full willingness.

Sakalya yoga is an instrument of self-love, healing and a way of life.

We teach from the Yog-Vedantic tradition.

+ Is there only 1 teacher for the program?

Each program session has 1 main Yoga Teacher Trainer, who guides you through the program and serves as your main contact. We also bring in other teachers to teach specialty components such as Anatomy & Physiology, and Asana, based on availability and need.

+ What if I am going to miss some classes?

In the case of missing 4+ hours, you will be required to make up the hours in a subsequently scheduled Yoga Training Program.

+ Will I be certified to teach after the program?

As long as you complete all course requirements, you will receive your Yoga Teacher Training (200hr) Diploma. You may then submit to the Yoga Alliance for registration, allowing you to teach Internationally in the Hatha tradition.
